I have my addressbook displayed in the split screen mode. How do I get show all addresses matching a certain criterion?

There are two ways:

1. Use categories to differentiate the addresses, then tap on the "paper icon" (or arrow in Datebk5) to the left of the date and choose "Select category".
2. Use the "Find/filter text" function from the "paper icon menu". If you enter a text fo be filtered by all entries in you addressbook matching this text will be displayed.

The second option in probably more suitable, since it allows you to reduce the number of entries to be displayed easier and probably produces better matches. Your mileage may vary!
