HowToEditThisWiki

Feel free to add to this wiki but please read this whole page before you do so.

Be aware that any changes you make can and probably will be revised by other contributors - you also can adjust other people's work. Please add and edit content carefully: check the accuracy of any information you provide, test all links, do your best to use correct spelling and grammar, and avoid local slang and uncommon abbreviations (remember that people reading this cookbook might not have English as their first language). If you wish to post anything in another language, please do so. If you see anything in a language other than English and are able to translate it, please provide a translation but leave the original material in place too (in fact if you want to translate English pages into other languages, go right ahead; if we end up with a lot of non-English content, we might do something to make this wiki more internationally-friendly).

To add a new page, either create a link to it on an existing page (only if the new page is related to the existing page) and then click on that link, or enter this URL in your browser address bar: http://oldgods.net/cgi-bin/datebk_wiki/PageNameHere where "PageNameHere" is the name of the new page. Please do not link new pages from this home page, unless the new page is directly related to specific material on this home page.

Each time you change a page, insert a brief description of the change you made in the "Summary of changes made" form field. If you wish, you can also enter your name in the "Username" field (the username can be anything you want it to be). Use the "Preview" button and check your changes before you click on the "Save" button.

If the page you are working on needs more work, add text that describes what needs to be done. Make that text italic by starting it and ending it with a slash (/). Add a link to the page in Pages that need help!

Don't be offended when people edit your entries. Remember that wikis are collaborative tools and that once you add material to a wiki, your words are in the public domain and can (and should) be modified when appropriate to help make them as useful as possible to as many people as possible.

Previous versions of pages and pages marked for deletion are kept for 14 days.

If you write a lot of text into a form on this site, I advise you to copy it to your clipboard or to a file before you submit. Even better, copy it repeatedly to a file as you are writing it or write it completely in a text editor then paste it into a form. I haven't noticed my webserver being unreliable about submitting forms, but this is very good practice in general for any web site.

This wiki uses "banned content" and "banned hosts" features to prevent spammers from previewing or saving a page if it contains links to dubious material. This feature should not prevent you from saving any valid content, but if you find that you are unable to save a page, keep a copy of the material you were trying to add and contact me.

Linking to the Official Manuals

Please do not add material that can be found in the Datebk manual. Refer readers to sections in the Datebk manual when necessary. The best way to do that is to find the relevant pages in the manual and then create links by entering text such as this:

See DatebkSixManualPage:42 or DatebkFiveManualPage:12 or DatebkFourManualPage:33 for details.

It is important to use exactly "DatebkSixManualPage" or "DatebkFiveManualPage" or "DatebkFourManualPage" (without the quotes) before the colon - if you use any other text, the link will not work. When finding page numbers, please use only the versions of the manuals that are linked to above. If you use older versions, then this wiki will become inconsistent and the material you add will be less valuable.

Unfortunately, if you need to link to a page less than 10, it's a bit more complicated - you have to put double square brackets around the link, like this:

See [[DatebkSixManualPage:6]] or [[DatebkFiveManualPage:4]] or [[DatebkFourManualPage:3]] for details

This will produce links that look like this:

See DatebkSixManualPage:6 or DatebkFiveManualPage:4 or DatebkFourManualPage:3 for details

Email me if you have trouble making links to the manuals!
