This is the wiki version of the Datebk cookbook which has been created and maintained by Stephan Engelke. This wiki is maintained by Alys. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or suggestions about this wiki. I recommend that you read this whole page before using the wiki.
Datebk (www.pimlicosoftware.com) is a highly advanced (and yet reasonably easy to use) datebook program for Palm OS devices. It uses the built-in Palm datebook/calendar database, allows excellent integration of todos from the built-in todo database, and also allows integration of the address and memo databases. The correct names for the various versions of Datebk are actually "Datebk3", "Datebk4", and "Datebk5", but we use "Datebk" here because most of the tips in this cookbook are at least partly usable on all versions of Datebk. (Also, the "b" in "Datebk" should be a capital "B", but we don't want every occurrence of "Datebk" to be a wiki link!)
The basic features of Datebk are very easy to use because the interface is based on the built-in Palm OS datebook program. The advanced features can take some time to learn but provide a truly excellent way to organise and view your datebook, todo, address, and memo data. This wiki is designed to help you learn the advanced features and to find ways to use them that suit you best. Note however that one of the best ways to learn about Datebk is to read the manual (available from www.pimlicosoftware.com) and try out the features as you read about them.
Use the All pages and Random page links in the header and footer of each page to browse through the wiki. Use the search form at the bottom of each page to search for specific topics. An RSS feed of recent changes is available at http://oldgods.net/cgi-bin/datebk_wiki?action=rss
Frequently, you will see links like DatebkFiveManualPage:42 or DatebkFourManualPage:33 - these will take you to the specified pages in the official Datebk manuals, if your browser has a suitable PDF reader plugin (some plugins might take you to only the first page in the manual).
For more details about using this wiki, look through the wiki engine's sitemap page (the links under the "Features for Users" heading will probably be of most interest to you, and the "Introduction" section will help you if you have never used a wiki before).
If you have any questions about Datebk that aren't answered in Datebk's manual or in this wiki, post your question to the Datebk Yahoo group. The group is an excellent source of information from the sole creator of Datebk ("CESD") and from many advanced users of the program. If you post useful information to the Yahoo group, please consider also adding it to a page on this wiki - you might need to slightly rewrite your post to make it a good stand-alone wiki page.
Feel free to add to this wiki, but please read HowToEditThisWiki first. You will not need special software or any knowledge of HTML.
