Assign Location

How can I get Datebk to assign a location, like a conference room, to an appointment?

If you are using one of the newer PalmOne devices that has the Calendar application, then read the LocationFieldFromCalendar page as well as the material below (especially if you are using Datebk6 which has more support for the Location field).

Datebk uses the native datebook database, which doesn't have a location field. However, many third party conduits will allow you to synchronize a 'pseudo' location field with a true location field in a desktop application.

For example, SyncWisePro, when synchronizing with appointments originating in GroupWise, puts a [SyncWise Location] comment in the appointment note. The text immediately following the note is whatever is contained in the location field on the GroupWise appointment. Unfortunately, it won't synchronize locations from the Palm to the desktop app.

When using Outlook and use PocketMirror you can just put the location in '()'. This way when you sync with Outlook, the location field is set accordingly and the location shows up in the alarm display on your handheld.

If you do not or cannot use any of this conduit software, you can simply enter the location after a dash, e.g.:

An alternative which makes maximum use of Datebk would be to use templates. Try this:

  1. Create an appointment that says "Meeting, Location: " Include the trailing space; you'll see why. Add a meeting icon and/or category if you desire.
  2. Save as a template. It's under the record menu called "Save item as template.".
  3. Delete the appointment.
  4. So, let's say you have a meeting at 9am on January 22. Go to January 22 in Datebk and grafitti the digit "9" (no need to say new appointment, just grafitti a "9" and the time display will come up). Set the end time and click "OK".
  5. Click the "T" icon on the bottom row, then click the line that says "Meeting, Location: ".
  6. Enter the location. (By putting the trailing space in the template, you won't have to enter it before the location every time.)

The event will say: 9am Meeting, Location: bathroom

Taking this a step further, if you only have a few possible locations, create a template for each one. Then, when you're entering a meeting, just pick the one you want and you don't have to enter the location anymore.
