Archiving done todos on the desktop only (Outlook solution)

I discovered a way to clean the old todos out of the Palm, yet maintain a record of them. I haven't had any trouble getting the daily view from a double tap on an empty area of the monthly view. The only trouble is that the record is only in Outlook and not available on the Palm.

While fooling around with Outlook one day, I created a sub folder of "Tasks" and named it "donetasks" I often like to leave the last example of a repetitive task marked complete on my Palm, so I didn't touch those. The rest of the completed todos I simply dragged from the Tasks folder into the new sub folder. Subsequent syncs seem to just remove these entries from the Palm, yet they remain clearly archived in Outlook.

Another option is to set up Pocket Mirror to take care of this for you automatically, by setting the "Remove Completed Tasks from Handheld" property.

  1. Follow instructions in ModifyPocketMirrorConduits to open the Task conduit.
  2. Click on "Task Filter" from the Topic panel on the left part of the screen.
  3. Tick the checkbox titled "Remove Completed Tasks from Handheld".

From now on, whenever you sync to this computer, all completed tasks will be removed from your Palm, but you will still be able to view them in Outlook. This can be a convenient way to save space on your handheld. Make sure you really want to do this as there doesn't appear to be any way to make exceptions to this… all completed todos will no longer be available on your Palm, including any important information you might have had in the notes of the todo.

Note: this feature is only available with the Professional version of Pocket Mirror. I'm using Pocket Mirror Pro XT. It might not be available in earlier versions.
